4. VALLETTA & MDINA – 2 CAPITALS IN ONE DAY!
Since 1980, the nation’s capital has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Housing an immense number of monuments and historic attractions within its walls, despite only spanning less than 1km of space. Designed by Papal architect, Francesco Laparelli on the gridiron plan, Valletta was founded as the nation’s capital and home of the previously ruling Order of the Knights of St. John. Many opulent, baroque-styled architecture laces the city streets, resulting in a fascinating historical route.
Buildings such as the Auberge de Castille, the Grandmaster’s Palace and The Royal Opera house were of great importance when they were founded. Having been renovated in modern times they now serve in a similar capacity as they once did with the Auberge de Castille serving as the Office of the Prime Minister and the Grandmasters Palace serving as the current Presidential Palace.
From here we will then go to the island’s very first capital and what can be seen as probably the island’s first settlement. Known today as the “Silent City” her history dates back to as far as the 8th century!
With historical contributions from ancient civilisations such as the Phoenicians. Mdina is a historic city with many different eras of history, which can be seen in the architecture. Also being occupied by the Arabs and heavily influenced by the Italians. Authentic palaces and mansions remain intact most dating from the 13th century.
Many buildings, especially St. Paull’s cathedral, have a biblical origin and trace their history back to events such as St. Paul’s shipwreck. St. Paul’s cathedral is dedicated to the Saint of the same name and serves as the seat for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Malta, sharing this function with St. John’s Co-Cathedral, itself in Valletta.
The City has in recent times been noteworthy for her role in the highly acclaimed hit television series, “Game of Thrones”.
After the tour you will be returned to your accommodation.
If your group wishes you may add optional attractions. We recommend visiting sites such as St. Paweł the patron of Malta, in Mdina.

Malta tour with a private driver who picked us up directly from the hotel and was at our disposal at all times was the best choice for our group of 6. We visited Malta calmly and without haste - the guide fantastically adapted to the expectations and pace of the tour for participants

Active holidays - yes, seaside relaxation - all the more! During our guided walk along the beaches and cliffs, we also found a moment to rest and contemplate the Mediterranean landscape, accompanied by refreshing local specialties and Maltese landscape-well recommended!:-)
