Malta, Private Tours, up to 4h

1. VALLETTA – THE CAPITAL

Valletta – The Maltese Capital. This guided tour of the island nation’s capital begins at the Triton fountain.

Situated just outside Valletta’s new grand city gate. The fifth gate to have stood at this site. Named in the native Maltese as “Bieb il – Belt”. Literally the “Door of the City”.

The Triton fountain, a symbol of Malta’s traditional relationship with the sea. It is here where you will be greeted by your private tour guide, who will the commence your tour.

Then you will enter, past the grand bastions of the city. Into one of the largest concentrations of historic monuments in all the world. Constructed in 1566, subsequent to the “Great Siege of Malta” the year prior.

A conflict which saw the occupants of the Maltese islands at the time, The Knights of the Order of St. John. Repel the powerful threat of the enormous Ottoman empire.

Despite her size of less than 1km, such fascinating instances of history can be found laced throughout the atmosphere and within the great walls of the city’s architecture. So much so that today Valletta , in her entirety, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list of sites.

Although somewhat modernized today, the city still follows the gridiron plan in which it was first conceived. As the private tour continues you will be able to view the most significant monuments and attractions in Valletta. Many of which have been refurbished and repurposed for the modern day.

After passing the brand – New Parliament Building , the active house of the of the Maltese government, you will then be able to catch a glimpse of some of Valletta’s most historic buildings. These will include The Palace of the Grand Masters which has been renewed and repurposed to house the Presidential Palace today.

As well as this we may visit the National Library , designed by the Polish architect, Stefano Ittar.

There will also be a visit to the splendid Upper Barrakka Gardens – formerly a private recreational area for Maltese bachelors. Today stands as a beautiful public garden, boasting a stunning panoramic view of Valletta’s Grand Harbour.

The private tour around Valletta then comes to an end, lasting an approximate 3 hours. This is also when the guide will depart.

If your group wishes you may add optional attractions. We recommend the glorious baroque-styled St. John’s Co. Cathedral. Which can booked through the reservation form.
